Design and Experiments of a Dragonfly-Inspired Robot

چکیده
This paper describes the design of dragonfly-inspired robots. Dragonflies demonstrate unique and superior flight performances than most of the other insect species. They are equipped with two pairs of independently controlled wings. The high level of dexterity in wing motion of the dragonfly allows it to hover, fly fast forward, make turns rapidly, fly sideways, and even glide. A dragonfly-inspired robot which could effectively mimic those kinematics would potentially exhibit superior flight performance than existing designs of insect robots. In this paper, we introduce two generations of robotic dragonfly prototypes developed to implement simplified dragonfly kinematics. Preliminary experiments on kinematics and aerodynamic force measurements of the prototypes are also presented. keywords: Flapping flight, Micro aerial vehicles, Dragonfly Robots, Biologically Inspired Robots, Biomimetics.

متن کاملReduction of Odometry Error in a two Wheeled Differential Drive Robot (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Pose estimation is one of the vital issues in mobile robot navigation. Odometry data can be fused with absolute position measurements to provide better and more reliable pose estimation. This paper deals with the determination of better relative localization of a two wheeled differential drive robot by means of odometry by considering the influence of parameters namely weight, velocity, wheel p...

Stanford University's GPS Laboratory has integrated a new multiple-antenna GPS receiver with an inertial measurement unit into the DragonFly unmanned air vehicle. Recent successful flight tests have demonstrated the performance of the new avionics and illustrated the great potential to use the aircraft as a testbed for navigation and control experiments. Unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) are attract...
متن کاملPepper or Roomba? Effective Robot Design Type Based on Cultural Analysis between Korean and Japanese Users
From a design perspective, there are two ways in robot design approach: biologically inspired and functionally designed. It has been proved that the two robot design types could be perceived differently by the cultural background. This study explored the impact of robot design types in Korean and Japanese culture on product evaluation, product usefulness, and purchase intention. We conducted an...
متن کاملDesign and Analysis of a Novel Tendon-less Backbone Robot
A new type of backbone robot is presented in this paper. The core idea is to use a cross shape mechanism with the principle of functioning of the scissors linkages, known as a pantograph. Although this continuum arm acts quite similar to tendon-driven robot, this manipulator does not include any tendon in its structure. This design does not suffer from the weaknesses of the continuum design suc...
